Debt Relief Agencies: The 411

Debt relief agencies are today helping many U.S. consumers to navigate their way out of serious personal debt problems during the current economic slump. Though officially the recession ended in 2009, the economy has remained flat and this has caused much financial stress and pressure on the American consumers. This fiscal pressure has affected consumers in all 50 states and from all classes, races, and social status. It seemingly has spared no one demographic in particular. The good new is that debt relief agencies are widely available today, offering programs and services which are both easy to apply for and qualify for.

These debt relief agencies which are available in all states today go by different classifications as they each tend to specialize in one particular form of debt help program. One of these services that is well-known is the consumer credit counseling agency. But contrary to the name, consumer credit counseling services offer more help than merely counseling consumers on ways to stretch their household budgets. Indeed, these services work directly with a consumer's creditors to negotiate many aspects of a person's debt. They might negotiate such things as interest rates, penalties, fees, payment due dates and the such in a concerted and well through out effort to help lower a person's weekly monthly payment(s).

Yet there are other types of debt relief agencies that exist as well and which consumers have been flocking to in recent times. One of these classifications of firms is known as the debt settlement agency. This type of debt help programs offers services which can be very powerful in eliminating a person's debt. Yet it almost sounds like magic, doesn't it? How does these programs actually work? You see, the methods that these debt settlement firms employ are quite unique and different from those that are offered by the standard grade A consumer credit counseling firm. For while the debt settlement firm also negotiates directly with a person's creditors, they aim to address more than simply interest rates and monthly payment(s). These firms aim to offer a lump sum payment as a settlement and closure of a person's credit accounts. This lump sum payment can be significantly and monumentally less than what was originally owed. It's for reasons such as this that these types of debt relief agencies have become increasingly popular in recent years.

In summary, we can state that consumers today have more options for relief that than grandparents and even parents just a few decades ago. It's important for a consumer to scope out and review all of the programs offered by debt relief agencies today before deciding on a program that best fits their needs.
